Great question Mary, I know so many people who have this problem. A couple of years ago a friend recommended a product called Boeshield T-9 to me and I’ve never looked back! Boeing developed this product for their service departments and it dries to a completely waterproof wax-like finish. You just spray it on, wipe off any excess and leave to dry. If you reapply every couple of months, it will keep your tools protected and rust free! It’s pretty inexpensive too. Best of luck Mary.
